CASK NO 177
SUMMARY
Cask #177 is an enticing ex-Bourbon cask expression, and one of the rare examples of a Westland whiskey sent to renown reviewer Jim Murray before it was even released. His score of 94.5 illustrates its appeal. In his own words, “(Westland’s Cask #177 has) a beautiful praline depth topped by an almost cake-like marzipan and honey frame. Calms slightly into a more Highland Park style heather honey-earthy character while the spices bubble along delightfully. Bold, assertive single malt trying to stick to a honeyed theme. Fabulous quality!”
FLAVOR PROFILE
The nose leads with tropical fruits including banana, pineapple and candied mango. Sweet pastry notes follow in toasted sourdough, cinnamon, slight clove, lemon cake, vanilla frosting. The palate is perfumed and sweet offering lilac gum drops and spiced honey to complement the lingering toasted sourdough notes.
