HOLY MOUNTAIN CASK EXCHANGE
SUMMARY
This cask exchange journey actually started with our friends at Holy Mountain Brewing Co. when they filled fresh port casks with their American Strong Beer and aged it with Brettanomyces yeast for over a year. After emptied, we then took those casks to Westland to be filled with 3-year-old single malt made from our 5-malt barley bill. The new pairing matured for nearly another three years before being blended and bottled for this release. The grain and cask notes intermingle effortlessly, showcasing all the various components in a unique beer cask-finished single malt.
What is the Cask Exchange?
Westland’s Cask Exchange is a series of single malt whiskey bottlings driven by demand for casks by Washington brewers. Instead of selling these casks to local breweries, we loan casks to like-minded brewers from our region. We offer no requirement for what type of beer fills these casks—only for them to be returned after use. Beer finishes are far from novel, but this program isn't about being unique, it's about forging meaningful partnerships and making something together that couldn't have existed before.
